For our second issue, we decided to talk about misrepresentation and culture appropriation. Recently I have noticed that in recent years there has been a lot of talk about this subject, as people have become more aware. There have been a lot of opposite views about the subject, especially culture appropriation. But what is cultural appropriation? “the adoption or co-opting, usually without acknowledgement, of cultural identity markers associated with or originating in minority communities by people or communities with relatively privileged status.” - Dictionary.com
Considering the vastness of the topic up we divided it up into subtopics and farmed them as questions, which included; their thoughts on cultural appropriation, what they think of cultural stereotypes and if they have experienced any? If they have ever felt misrepresented and how it made them feel? Lastly, we asked if they felt correctly represented in general media.
